::It's a beautiful Showa Era Ryokan that's over 70 years old. There is a 200 yen accommodation tax when checking in (this tax applies for all accommodations in Fukuoka), which I happily paid for as I want to support sustainable tourism). You leave your shoes at the main entrance and use slippers throughout the Ryokan. You are provided a toothbrush, yukata, and a prepared tea set that you can pour hot water in immediately to consume. I believe I met the owner's father, who checked me in. He was incredibly patient, introduced me to my room (which was clean and tidy), set up my bedding, and guided me to where the facilities were while explaining in Japanese with some English translations. The amenities are a little outdated, but in exchange-- the accommodation is affordable and breakfast is an available option. The walls are also a little thin-- so you will hear some noise from the outside, this did not bother me though as the area was quiet during the night. The check-out time is 10AM and I easily did so by leaving my room key in the basket at the main entrance. In summary, the Yamamoto Ryokan is an affordably wonderful and historic place to spend your nights. They have an instagram: @yamamotoryokan and a cute Shiba Inu dog named; Charmie. I sadly didn't get to meet the dog but heard them barking in the morning. Also, all Ryokan's have a certain set of rules and standard etiquette, make sure to inform yourself of those to show respect before choosing a Ryokan.

::Had a lovely stay at Yamamoto Ryokan. The staff was very friendly, and the service was excellent. Even for a group of foreigners, they made us feel at home. It was a great experience in a traditional style. The place was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The Ryokan is only one block away from a scenic temple and the subway line, one stop away from the shinkansen, making it very convenient. Highly recommend.

::Its an old style ryokan. A little bit run down but amenities are working well. Toilets are well cleaned, heater and hot water are working fine. Comfy and clean futons. The only gripe i had were the sound proofing is not that good. You can hear ppl next door walking/talking/snoring/using toilet. And since its shared toilet, some guest doesnt have the decency to keep the toilets/shower room clean. The location is superb though. Near to airport line train and another train station that can connects you to anywhere else in fukuoka. Hakata station is walkable as well. Plenty of famous food within walkable distance if you have the time to que for them. Also i booked with agoda and my fee mentioned inclusive of all taxes. But during check in i was told there is a fukuoka tourist tax of 200 yen per person per night. So we ended up paying 1200 yen for 3 nights. So just we aware of that. If you are driving, you can request to the innkeeper for a parking spot at 1100 yen per day. Other parking places in fukuoka is a little more expensive, ranging from 1500 to 2000 yen with no fixed spot. Limited parking spot of 2 cars as far as i know.

::Nice staff and kinda comfy that it's so old. It's a cool experience. Bath and toilets are shared and it's a Japanese style bath. Cute and friendly dog. Thin walls so voices and footstep can be heard. Not my only but biggest complaint is that my room (110) was infested with bugs and snails... Had to kill maybe 3 snails and 10-15 bugs... Don't know if it's the same in the other rooms. If you can sleep with bugs and wanna get away cheap it's a good stay otherwise best to try somewhere else sadly.

::A very basic tatami room, shared family baths, and shared toilets. Everything you'd expect in a simple traditional inn. Toilets are sparkling. Lovely staff too. Only complaint: walls are super thin, floors creak. If you're a light sleeper, you'd want to stay somewhere else.
