Our time here was split between two rooms over two nights. The rooms were adequate but in much need of modernising. But you don't come here for the rooms. It's all about the onsen. The onsens were quite large with a fantastic outdoor area which was a devine experience at late night during some heavy snow. We also got to see the log cabins and it will be on our to do list during our next visit. I highly recommend this hotel but just do not come here expecting modern amenities. But if you are after one of the best onsens in Japan then here's your place.

Lovely onsen! The town of kusatsu has so much to offer. Don’t skip this area. The winter is the best time, and a ski resort is just a bus ride away.

A bit far from Kusatsu Bus Terminal but you can use the hotel bus, which departs every 30 minutes. The room is old but spacious. staffs are friendly. There is a connivence store near by. The onsen is ok. Good price for which included both dinner and breakfast. However, it will be better if the cleanliness is improve more, and price of in-house store is cheaper. Also, the bowling is not free.

The cabins were good with a bedroom, tatami room, kitchen, dining area and living room. The bedroom carpet was a bit old and didn't look clean. Facilities around the Ryokan are old.

You definitely see and feel the age. The room keys are still…keys… Not enough outlets in the room. No outlet by the bed so you cant charge your phone by the bed. The room was way too hot and you cant control the temperature. Only the floor heater was controllable. We had to crack the window open. Its so hot that the -8C outside air made it bearable to sleep. We stayed at chateau bldg. The terme terme pool area was humid and hot. The locker room was humid and hot. The main onsen was great. Outside hot springs was amazing. The place had karaoke and bowling also. But we couldnt use it because last call was 7:30. Wish things were open later since theres nothing else to do in the area.
