It's not a very expensive place but you can have a traditional onsen experience. There are small separated men & women onsen baths as well as two family baths which you can use privately as much as you want if they are free

Great ryokan at a decent price. The large baths were open for reservation most of the time, and I enjoyed nice long hot spring baths both at night and in the morning.

ひどいもてなし。食事はコンビニの食べ物があります。温泉汚い。この旅館のルールは本当に理不尽。 While Japan is a country that prides itself in omotenashi aka hospitality, the behaviour of the staff at this ryokan examplified absolutely none of this. After hunting for the ryokan, we were greeted by the very rude owner who ran out of the ryokan to chase us away while we were trying to unload our luggages from the car, asking us to return only at 5pm. Take note, this place DOES NOT allow you to leave your luggages if you arrive before check-in. Later when we returned, he glared at us and refused to serve us, calling upon his Nepalese staff to attend to us (who was perhaps the only glimmer of kindness and decency in this place). Not only were the house rules inane (i.e barred from opening the curtains before 8am), the housekeeping service was appalling as well. We were required to set up the futons ourselves and our room remained uncleaned (including the rubbish bins not being cleared) for the entire duration of our stay. Food was also another problem. For the price paid, we definitely weren't expecting 5-star hotel standard food. But what we definitely weren't expecting was food from the nearby Lawson convenience store repackaged as dishes for our meals. We had paid for 2 days of breakfast but could not take it on our 2nd day because of our travel plans and requested that we have it the next day instead. Our request was flat-out refused. However, I guess based on the quality and standard of the food, we didn't miss much. We also stayed when the weather was cold. Despite this, there was absolutely no running hot water at this ryokan. Further, the water pressure was extremely low as well. Also, the communal bath area does require some maintenance done i.e broken tiles and rusty taps. Mind you, during our stay, we were more or less the only guests there. Had it been busier, perhaps the curt attitude from the owner might've been understood. Everybody has their calling in life and perhaps the owner might not be suited for the hospitality sector after all. But that doesn't mean one cannot improve and if doing so is possible, I wish him all the best.

This place isn't far nor hard to find, there are signs all over and although it's not right beside the yubatake, it's only 10 minutes away. The staff are super friendly, and will do their best to help you if you don't speak Japanese. There are 2 baths per gender, one private and one public and they're open at all hours. This ryokan is also very pescatarian friendly, although I'm not sure they can be full vegetarian ( I eat meat). The food is very authentic and home cooked, and deliciously refreshing. For all I've said above, the price is a great value and I highly recommend this ryokan if you're visiting kusatsu

Like someone else mentioned the ryokan is about 10 minutes removed from the center of town, but it's not difficult to find and the view of the mountain from the room isn't half bad. (Perspective has to be while sitting down, otherwise your mostly looking at the street). The ryokan has a public bath for men and women, indoor and outdoor, also 2 baths that you can reserve or claim if no one is using it as a private bath.
