::Thank you for making our stay such a lovely experience! English speaking day staff were very helpful in getting us situated. Night staff were all very kind too. Room was really big. Yukata was provided, open air and indoor baths were all very nice. Ryokan dinner and breakfast had a lot of variety and was yummy. Including lobster one night! Parking is in a shared public lot just across the street, nearby. They held our luggage for us because we were early, and brought it up to the room when it was ready. Tips for one of the open air onsen, the cold water tap is hidden away from the bamboo spout, inside a pipe haha. We were bumbling tourists who have never stayed at ryokan, sorry about doing the wrong things sometimes! Thank you for the lovely stay!

::It used to be the nicest common bath in Unzen, in terms of settings, ambience and facilities. Now they renovated the hotel, which looks ugly and spoils the view, and you can't use the common bath if you don't stay overnight in the ugly hotel. I wonder what is the Unzen Hotel lobby thinking: catering to mass tourism and killing local, day trip, bath tourists like us? Nobody will ever get on a plane or bus to stay in such ugly looking hotels. They will go bankrupt in a matter of a few years. Then maybe they will tear down the ugly looking monster hotel and build little boutique hotel that also welcome locals in their common baths. Time will tell.

::Nice stay at this ryokan. There are both indoor and open air onsen and it wasn’t ever too busy. The water was a perfect temperature - not too hot so you can stay in it comfortably for a while. The food is very plentiful and tasty. Service was friendly. The rooms were fairly typical Japanese style. There are a couple parking spots right next to the ryokan but you can also park for free on the lot just down the street (free for overnight guests at Iwaki).

::The water at this onsen is VERY good. It's acidic, about 2.2 ph! Afterwards my skin felt fantastic! I drank some of the water and it kind of tasted like lemon juice!
