Very well kept ryokan hotel, the room was exactly what we wanted. We were on the second floor but very easy staircase. Didn't eat here but did use the onsen. I'd stay here again at this price.

This is about a ~20 minute bus ride from the Hakodate station, but I loved the aesthetic and service at this ryokan. They take your shoes and luggage at the front so it feels very intimate, and the prepared breakfast and dinner were also excellent. However, I was disappointed that they tried to charge us for early check-in when we were checking out...because we didn't check in early. Thankfully it didn't require an argument but it was very unnecessary...why do that to your customers?

We just stayed in the Ichinomatsu hotel in Takayama, and our global experience was poor. Firstly, in our way to Takayama, we were stuck in Tokyo due to a very heavy rain, so there was no transport to arrive. We didn’t know what to do so we try to call the hotel, in order to ask them if it was possible to move the reservation to another weekend or so. We called 10 times, from 09h to 11h AM without any response... so surprising that a hotel didn’t answer the phone. Later we try again and finally someone answer, we try to explain our situation but they just response: “booking telephone” (referring to contact directly to booking.com to look for a solution) We speak a little bit of Japanese, but was very surprising the non existence level of English. Finally we got the way to find some transport so we didn’t cancel at last. When we arrived to the hotel, it looks very busy (surprisingly considering we are under the covid and the tourism is very low now), and the receptionist attended us so quickly. She messed up and though we were staying 1 night instead of 2 (was not a concern for us) and she rushed us to the room (there were more guest in reception waiting and she was alone). She didn’t explain us anything about the room, or the facilities usages. She pointed where the Onsen was, but she didn’t explain how to booked it. It was a little confusing because there was different people booked for the same hour, for using it 30min and 1hour in the same private Onsen. She didn’t indicate us where was the sign to hang on the door to do the cleaning (it was keep it inside the description book in the room, not very easy to find) so they couldn’t clean our room.... Lastly, we though we could have breakfast, but she didn’t mentioned, and the morning after we didn’t saw any breakfast service (it’s understandable with the covid). She didn’t offer us any map of the area or suggestions about the attractions around. It’s surprising for us to see all this forgetfulness when supposedly we are on low season and with less tourist because of the pandemic.... Specially now it’s important to take good care of guests. I think it’s reasonable to ask for more details on the facilities and the hotel. Also taking in account this is not a hostel or guest house... A cozy place, beautiful japanese patio but a little bit disappointed with the lack of professionalism :(

The traditional Japanese ryokan stay is amazing! From walking into the hotel entrance to the room, to dinner, to Onsen, to bedtime and breakfast in our room, to the moment we left feel welcomed and fantastic. We are treated like king and queen. This place is very traditional which at first I thought it might be old and worn out, but it is not! Staff are so nice and police, and the place is very clean and quiet. We will go back!

Fantastic and authentic onsen. They spoke English and were very helpful in explaining everything. The food presentation was so intense and one incredible experience. I highly recommend going and spoiling yourself. They provide all clothing to wear, including shoes for certain areas and towels etc. Baths are separated from male and female and they didn't mind if you have tattoos.
