Nice hotel. Plenty of things to engage in there. Osen. Restaurant. Patio. Nature surrounds the hotel. Set hours to eat in restaurant

Stayed over night early August of 2013. We are a group of two adult and one child. (One of adults and a child are vegetarians.) Despite the looks of the hotel, their service was so sophisticated. It is a shame that their facility and rooms look bit rusty and tired. But cleanliness was not an issue. It is just a matter of its ageing. Sophistication by well experienced / trained staff covered lack of hardware more than enough. They never unnecessarily too close to the guests, but whenever we need their help, it is always swift enough and appropriate by its manner. It was so flawless and pleasant. Their food, both dinner and breakfast buffet were excellent. We needed vegetarian dinner and booked them in advance. Their cook(s) definitely know what they should do to entertain vegetarians at special occasion - while many big names only provide chopped vegetables and fruit which is quite amateur level. Following morning buffet was another very pleasant experience. Unlikely typical hotel buffet, all items were well prepared as same standard as proper evening meal. Either you are non-vege or vegetarian, this hotel worth stretching your itinerary if you visit Hakone - obviously the area is less popular comparing to some other places there, but they do have a charm to pay for it. Needless to say, two public bath which change assignment between gentlemen and ladies over nights everyday were clean enough and well maintained, though sizes were not huge. But rather compact arrangement generate relaxed atmosphere, I think. If their building was less rusty and / or refurbished, I would definitely give 5 starts.
