::Worst ryokan experience in Japan. The service crew at the counter looks like we owe them 1 million dollars, especially the lady. We tried getting the amenities while our guide is doing the check in process, the lady stopped us rudely. Rigid system where a group (different rooms) must reach at the same time for the meal. My sister want to skip breakfast as a result, we told the counter, and the grouchy man simply said “no cashback” even we didn’t even ask for it. When we checked out, the lady told our guide “what if there’s forgotten items” multiple times, as if we will surely leave something behind and bring them trouble. Lastly there was hair in my fish during dinner. The chef apologised with a plate of Tori Ten and that’s all. Once I was at another ryokan and there was an insect in my veg, the staff from counter apologised till the next morning we checked out 😂 However, I have to give praise to the service crew during the meals. They are kind and meticulous and doing their job right. I’m sure they have a hard time too with such grumpy managers/boss. There’s also no wifi in room, only in check in area Avoid with all cost, there are better options in Yufuin. Just do your bookings earlier. The location is also really bad and away from the bustling streets. There’s also a lot of bugs.

::The worst onsen hotel we had ever stayed. The only good thing was the service at the restaurant. The managers at the front desk have attitude problems. Not much hospitality for visitors. The onsen is also the worst we had experienced so far. Only two small shared outdoor onsen pools, one for each gender. That’s it. Not much facilities. It’s far away from everywhere else. Nothing much to do here. Nothing much to view. The managers with attitude made the whole experience worse. Would not recommend this onsen hotel at all. Avoid this place at all cost.

::Location: The hotel is located about 1.6KM (approximately 25 mins walk) from Yufuin Station and food source. Connectivity: WiFi is not available in the room, only in the lobby. Customer Service: Requested for a dinner reservation on the third night of our stay, but got rejected. Requested for two additional pillows, but got rejected. Service staff at the lobby, uncle with spec, is always grouchy and unfriendly. Room: Huge, but old. There are holes in the blanket. Onsen: Probably the only nice thing in the hotel.

::Spacious rather dated and eclectic decor room. Lots of space to move around with a desk too & chairs. Staff hardly speak English so use Google translate. Onsen was decent! If you want to eat there, book early. We had to find other options which is fine if you drive. But in a small town, make dining reservations early!

::The room is very very big and spacious although a bit dated. The bathtub is also very large. There are 2 outdoor onsen's, nothing spectacular, the water was hot enough and environment very relaxing. The staff speak little to no english but are very helpful and friendly. They offered to transfer our luggage to the station when there were no taxi's. In terms of location it is in the middle of no where. It's about a 15 min walk to the nearest restaurant and shops and about a 30 min walk to the station. Do note if you decide to walk from the station to the hotel it is uphill. A taxi from the station will cost about 700 yen and a 5 min ride. Overall would visit again but be prepared that you need to take a taxi.
