  I wish I could give them more than five stars! We showed up late on our first night after a long day of travel and they had saved our meal for us. Just a small example of the wonderful service and kind staff. The rooms were spacious, airy and relaxing, and the public and private baths were well-maintained and beautiful, each with its own special character. The food was incredible and there was a lot of it - if you are a traveler to Japan, be ready to try new things and expand your taste! The presentation of each dish was art. We couldn't be happier with our stay, and we still think about the friendly faces at Hinoharu every day!

  Lovely abode to live in for a relaxing time at yufuin. Plenty of hotspring options including - private, public and indoor. Perfect breakfast and dinner served. Food was fresh, well thought out and varied. Love the Saba and Japanese rice. Great service and effort to understand foreign guests!! Will be back

  Our second time here, Once again, an unforgettable experience from start to finish. This was an amazing experience, from check in all the way to check out. It's a 10 minute stroll to and from Yufuin Station, a nice walk with shops along the way. We were greeted at the door by the staff, so friendly, nice and helpful, super easy check in process, immediately took our large baggage away to our room no problem. A staff member guided us to the room, introducing the amenities and the property along the way, he was super helpful and spoke very good English. He went through the offerings in the room and we were surprised to have our own Onsen in the room even though we booked a cheaper room. He organized dinner times for us before hand and our bags were waiting for us in the room. The dinner was multi course with local and high quality ingredients, it show case a bit of everything, from the sea, lakes and land. It was delicious along with great service. It was served in a separate dinning room with just us. The 3 private onsens were super nice, private and large and because they were only 11 rooms, they were not busy. The public open air bath were also very nice. The bed was comfortable with fast wifi and good AC. Breakfast was filling and was high quality as well. We needed our bags shipped to another hotel we were staying at, they arranged it no problem and the pricing was good. Worth every penny. The best place to stay at Yufuin hands down, book early!

  It is about 10-15 min walk from Yufuin train station to the Ryokan. If you have large luggages, it will be good to call for a taxi, otherwise, it is manageable! We were warmly welcomed by reception staff. They were quick to receive us and took care of our luggages as we were checking in. A tour around the ryokan was also given to us by a staff, Erika-san who took care of us for our 2 nights stay. The room, bathroom and baths were clean and comfortable. Sleep wear was provided and to top up the experience, they also provided Yukatas and footwear for going out. Also, besides providing the showering gels, the vanity table even included some facial and hair lotion. Breakfast was sumptuous and yummy and we had a private room to ourselves. Erika kindly explained to us the dishes in English and offered us with photo taking for memories. (Don’t have to feel awkward requesting). Also, contrary to some reviews, dinner was also splendid and tastes were just right. Ingredients were fresh as well! Worth the dollars and cents! If you are looking at a hot bath, this ryokan has got 3 private baths (2 outdoor and 1 indoor) and 2 public baths (1 for men and 1 for women). Went for the private bath and it felt like it was our own sanctuary as we were undisturbed and were given a time limit of 1 hour 40 min. There were a few staff who are seen around from time to time and they are always polite and helpful. Can’t emphasize enough on their service! A place I will come back to in future!

  I had a wonderful stay in the ryokan. The staff are amazing and friendly, food presentation and taste incredible. Hot spring is relaxing. Erika San was the staff who looked after our stay and I felt like at home. Highly recommended ryokan in Yufuin!
