  Owner was really, really, really rude. He screamed us. He doesn’t know a word in English. We couldn’t understand anything. We came to the place to stay in and book a reservation, but we couldn’t because the owner was really rude. When we first came he was sleeping at his chair and snoring, we had to wake him up in order to speak to him and after we woke him up, he screamed at us. He didn’t speak a word in English. Very very rude. Do not get near. He’s a very angry old man. Do not come here at any price.

  Had a great stay here! Fairly priced ryokan given the area. Has a small onsen on the ground floor with cloudy and very hot onsen water. The place was quiet so the owner allowed my partner and I to go in together. Lovely little gestures provided throughout our stay (oranges, biscuits and tea in the room) + yukata (casual kimono) provided for going to the downstairs onsen. The breakfast was a variety of small japanese dishes and was delicious. The owner's English was quite good! Easy access to areas of interest by bus. Definitely recommend

  Charming hotel in the Sengokuhara neighborhood. Felt like we were in someone's traditional home. The owner was very kind and generous. He spoke a small amount of English. We had a traditional Japanese breakfast our first morning there. The hot tubs were amazing, with water straight from the thermal hot springs. Not many guests were using them, so we had this facility to ourselves. I particularly liked the location because it was away from the more touristy towns in Hakone. Buses run frequently to both the port and Gora (both a 15-min trip). Walking distance to restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets and coin laundry. A handful of museums and a botanical garden are also a short walk. Docking off one star because the hallway (but not our room) smelled of cigarette smoke from time to time. It seems smoking laws are different here than in other countries.

  A very sweet little Ryokan. Simple but clean and pleasant. The owner is very kind and welcoming. There are 2 small onsen (one male, one female, though they don't seem to be used communally and are rather too small to share with strangers!), which you can reserve for private use on arrival. A lovely place to stay.

  My wife really likes to sleep in Japanese traditional hotel, with tatami floor and futon. The feeling relaxing in the onsen was great, especially after long flight. We found a good restaurant for yakiniku, 5 minutes walking.
