  The hotel facilities were beautiful, but the service was abysmal. Hotel staff do not know the details of their property, timing, or amenities, and every staff member tells you something different when you ask questions. If you are not fluent in Japanese, you will not be able to get a clear answer to anything even with the help of translation apps. They gave us the wrong floor number for our room (despite us confirming twice), the wrong times for the Yunessun’s operating hours that day, and the incorrect time for when dinner started and ended. They also charge an unusually high amount for lost room keys and private onsens, when most other similar hotels allow private onsens to be rented for free as part of the stay. There was a birthday celebration in our party noted in our reservation, and the staff did nothing to recognize that.

  The best memory my mother and I ever had! All staff were very nice, professional and the hotel provides 5 star resort service. It was my mother’s birthday so they updated room with concern and a hand written birthday wishes card from staff. We can’t ask more. Thank you so much

  I'm writing this review because this hotel deserves a higher rating than its current score, which is under 4 stars. The staff were friendly, and the facilities were clean and new, contrary to what some reviews have mentioned. Given the price, I have no complaints and couldn't find anything comparable in Australia.

  We stayed at the Hakone Kowakien Hotel for a family vacation with our young daughter and were very pleased with our experience. The hotel, rated as a 5-star establishment, certainly lived up to our expectations in terms of luxury and quality. One of the most impressive features of the hotel was the high-quality onsen, which offered an exceptionally relaxing experience. The onsen was wonderful and clean, with a stunning view that provided a sense of tranquility. It is important to note that the hotel operates on a cashless basis, which makes transactions easier and adds to the convenience. However, it is worth mentioning that dinner at the hotel requires prior reservation, which we were not aware of. Therefore, it’s advisable to book in advance to ensure you can enjoy the dinner. Overall, the hotel offers a luxurious and comfortable stay, especially for families. We would be happy to return in the future.

  I stayed at this amazing resort for 2 nights. Our room was small but functional and the beds were super comfortable. My partner and I loved the private onsen, it was so lush! The public onsen was really nice too and super clean. The staff were professional and we enjoyed having some drinks at the bar after dinner. The breakfast is super impressive and has a huge variety of food. I would recommend staying here. There is a bus stop out the front so it’s really easy to get around. The resort is super fresh and new so it was a wonderful place to stay in Hakkone
