::Fantastic hotel, exceptional service, zen interior, short walk to Kyoto station! This hotel is a gem. Kanra is designed with attention to detail in a Japanese minimalistic Zen focused style. The interiors are inviting and give a sense of ease after a long day of tourism. The lobby area is a sunken oasis, stocked with coffee, wine, beer, and sake throughout the day for all guests. It’s very nice to enjoy a drink while surrounded by the displayed art of local artisans who craft away in the lobby nook. The staff are exceptionally warm, hospitable and strive to meet every request as best as they can. I emailed back-and-forth tens of times before my arrival and during my stay and they never said no. They do an excellent job helping with restaurant reservations and Taxi booking. The housekeeping staff diligently maintain the space. The hotel is in an excellent location, next to a gorgeous (and massive) temple, and a short convenient walk from Kyoto station. A 7/11 is right next-door and a Fresco grocery store is a short walk away. The quality of toiletries provided are top notch as well. The air conditioning works great, the beds are very comfortable, and the shower has excellent water pressure. The only feedback I have is that they extend their housekeeping beyond 1 PM so that guests who are a bit jetlagged can still have their rooms cleaned later in the day. Further, the walls need a fresh touch of paint. For longer days, storage and shelving is limited, but they kindly provided us with an extra hanging rack and we did not have any issues. I highly recommend this hotel as an exceptional choice for a memorable stay in the beautiful city of Kyoto.

::Stayed 1N in Main Building Double Room. Hotel is next to Gojo station, and 15min walk to Kyoto Station, but is right next to the Honganji Temple. We were lucky to get a room that faces Kyoto Tower and the Temple. Room is spacious, but the tatami layout meant there wasn't really much room for 2 XL luggage to be opened. Walk-in shower, with hinoko wood bathtub (which means no bath salt is allowed) + wooden bath stool. Good water temp / control / pressure, toilet is separate room. Windows can slide open abit. Breakfast is good (mix of Japanese / Western items). There is also a small retail corner at the lobby. Hotel also provides free beverage / wine service in the afternoon at the lobby. Recommend Takaokaya (Kyoto Pillow Company) is 10min walk north-west. Hotel also carries their very own Kumihimo rope, paired with Linne bells. Hotel shares a name card (with QR Code) to help tourists with luggage forwarding service. Con Somehow, hotel does not have luggage rack. Would make for a good base for Kyoto, given nearness to subway station.

::The hotel is very pretty, clean, and is in a great location. You can walk from the train station even with your luggages. Staff is all Japanese and SO polite. They speak great English too. Great service - highly recommend!

::The rooms are cute and well decorated, but lacked a bit of space and counters to put out clothes and other items. Because of the lack of floor space, we could only really have one suitcase open at a time, and barely had room to store the other suitcases. The bathroom was large and spacious with a really nice wooden bath tub. The shower seemed like an after thought in the corner and didn't have a door so water would get everywhere outside the space of the shower. Our room faced a daycare and only had light curtains to cover the windows. If we wanted privacy, we had to close the paper panels which cuts off half the room from our bed area. The service was normal and it didn't seem that the staff went out of their way to go above and beyond, so nothing memorable about that. The check in counters are all the way to the right when you first walk in which confused us when looking to check in. The location is about a 10-20 minute walk from the Kyoto station depending on how fast you walk. Don't be fooled by the temple - it actually is pretty large and takes some time to walk past, especially if it's the end of the day and you're tired. We did our laundry at a coin place 10 minutes away in a residential area which was very pretty but we didn't find anything nearby that was conveniently outside. It's not a bad location, but I would consider staying closer to the attractions next time.
