::We stayed at Dougoya for two nights in late May and can’t recommend it more highly. - The property is a 90 year old factory that has been renovated and meticulously maintained. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with traditional tatami and futon bedding and some modern art touches too. - Bathrooms are shared and a kept to a high standard of cleanliness. There is a small onsen on site, which is cute, but primarily utilitarian (unlikely to need due to proximity to other onsen). - The host is lovely and considerate - with a great taste in music (and great record collection.) - I recommend the breakfast, too, as this was a highlight. Very hearty, with a lot of vegetables (unusual in Japan). - The ryokan is located 5 minutes from the main onsen and shopping area, so highly convenient. - So long as you are comfortable with shared bathrooms, I would strongly recommend this ryokan.

::I had an amazing stay at Dougoya, all because of Hisa, he was an amazing host since the beginning of my check-in and very welcoming, he offered great dinner and breakfast recommendations and directions on moving in transport as well, he really was the best host in whole stay in Japan, thank you! The ryokan had a very nice electric blanket and very comfortable futon, and was very traditional and nice.

::Beautiful ryokan with spacious rooms and very helpful staff. Much better than the concrete hotels nearby. Hisa was very helpful and recommended the best bakery where we had a baguette with fish roe that was insanely delicious. He was also a pleasure to talk to about where to go in town and his travels in America. Would absolutely stay here I’m ever back in Matsuyama.

::Close to Dogo Onsen this tranquil retreat offers an authentic traditional Japanese experience. Spacious and thoughtfully decorated rooms with an outlook to peaceful garden and a shared mini onsen bathroom. Our host made us feel very welcome and at home after a long days travel. The many rooms are decorated in delightful artworks and you feel as though you are staying in a traditional Japanese home - because you are! Thank you for an amazing experience. Wish we could have stayed a few nights and hope to someday return.
