A true Japanese experience. The Onsen is in the mountains. The building itself is old, going back to Edo era, if I remember correctly. The rooms are rather basic, which is a part of the charm, futons were some of the most comfortable I slept on and food was really good. As for the onsen - bathing in the middle of the night is just amazing.

I used day onsen. There is a mixed bath pool but it’s not needed. There are other smaller pools separates men and women with the same water. I would rather stay in the separated area and be more relaxed.

A hot spring famous as a secret hot spring. Just running on unpaved mountain roads will make U feel excited. U can use the hot springs for a day trip or stay overnight, but the opening hours are until 3:00 pm for day trips, but the opening hours seem to be shorter during holidays due to the crowds. The hot spring has an indoor bath and a mixed outdoor bath. During the day, the atmosphere is open, so mixed outdoor bathing is not very appealing. There are two indoor baths: the lukewarm ``Shiroyu'' and the hot ``Kuroyu.'' Both bathtubs are small, but the atmosphere is outstanding with the taste of the buildings, dimly lit interiors, and milky white water. You will feel warm forever and the quality of the hot springs is good. Recommended for those who want to experience a secret hot spring.

It was magical! Outdoor spa was unreal; all staff was really kind. Feeling the atmosphere from the old times (a few hundred years), you forget the sense of time. If you can't handle washoku, perhaps it'd be best to stay just one night, though. 😆

Had an unforgettable night in the snowy mountains of Akita. The stay offered a unique experience with multiple hot springs and traditional Japanese meals. The room was almost too warm, thanks to a powerful heater. Though it might be challenging for those not accustomed to local food, as alternative dining options are limited in the area.
