::A gem of a place " From the first moment we arrived we knew it was a special place. We received a warm welcome, got escorted to our room and give welcome drinks and cookies. Our room was immaculate. We had a beautiful view of the river and our own private Japanese garden and inside and outside onsen bath. We were provided with breakfast and dinner in the kaiseki style in our own room. The food was spectacular very fresh and full of local flavours. The service was impeccable, personal and friendly. The location was perfect for local sightseeing. We absolutely loved our stay and heartily recommend it.

::It’s a very nice hotel but it’s definitely not worth almost $1,000 usd a night (hence the 2 star rating). See pic - that’s the blackout shades in the morning…. At this price they even charge you 330 yen for a bottle of water. We thought we had booked dinner but were informed at 10am while dropping bags off (check in is 3pm) that we had not (completely out mistake). We asked to have it added at our cost but they declined. If you do decide to spend too much money on a hotel room be sure to book dinner as the small town pretty much shuts down at night and most restaurants are closed. AC is also not quite cool enough at night. I would probably stay in Kyoto and just come to the town for the day.

::I recently had the pleasure of staying at Ryotei Rangetsu for the second time, and I cannot express how satisfied and grateful I am for the experience. From the impeccable service to the amazing food, this hotel truly offers a taste of Japanese culture in the heart of Kyoto. The level of service provided by the staff at Ryotei Rangetsu is truly top-notch. They go above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of your stay is taken care of, making you feel valued and appreciated as a guest. The culinary delights at the hotel are simply incredible. Each dish is a work of art, showcasing the skill and creativity of the kitchen team. From fresh sashimi to beautifully presented kaiseki meals, the dining experience at Ryotei Rangetsu is unforgettable. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the nearby attractions. I highly recommend waking up early to visit the enchanting Sagano Bamboo Grove and the picturesque Arashiyama Park. These serene locations offer a glimpse into the natural beauty of Kyoto. Ryotei Rangetsu truly encapsulates the essence of Japanese culture. From the traditional architecture to the tranquil ambiance, every aspect of the hotel immerses you in the beauty and refinement of Japan. In conclusion, I highly recommend Ryotei Rangetsu to anyone seeking a taste of Japanese culture and a memorable stay in Kyoto. The exceptional service, amazing food, and proximity to captivating attractions make it an ideal choice for an authentic cultural experience.

::As a foreigner, I cannot comment on the authenticity but what I can say is, it was truly a fabulous stay. The attention to detail and the quality of service was unparalleled. Our private onsen had a fantastic view and was one of the most relaxing ways to spend an evening. I would recommend it to anyone.

::Spacious clean rooms with indoor and outdoor onsens, 9 course meal for dinner was a different but nice experience. Main highlight would be the warmth and service of all the staff especially Hamada San and Matsuda San who catered to our family's every need or potential needs. We were very well taken care of, akin to visiting a family's place. Great overall experience!
