::I usually do not write hotel reviews but this one was so bad on so many fronts that it needs to be called out to help my fellow travellers. Let me break it down - 1. Room - not only are room sizes extremely small but the layout of things is so bad that it makes basic living difficult. Half of the wash basin hovers over the bath tub and half over the toilet so you effectively can’t use anything comfortably in the bathroom. 2. Staff competency- the front desk manager committed multiple blunders one after the other and makes me doubt their competency- 1. He gave us a room key for a room which already had guests so we walked into someone sleeping at midnight. 2. He checked us into a smaller room size than what we had booked and when we complained about it, he said all rooms are full so he can’t do anything about it. 3. He then wrote down wrong breakfast hours on our welcome packet. So, we almost missed our first day breakfast because of that. 3. Poor Hospitality - we booked a larger room through a reputed online marketplace and somehow a different room size got communicated to hotel through them. In such situations, any good hotel would place guest comfort paramount and work out the issues with the marketplace where they chose to list their hotel. Instead, they asked us to work it out with the marketplace and said it’s not their problem. 4. Lack of basic amenities- even though it claims to be a 4-star hotel, it doesn’t have services like station shuttle, spa etc. which we even had in a 3-star hotel we stayed at so not really sure what we paid them so much money for. If visiting Hiroshima, either stay at a 3-star like Apa close to the station or if want to stay in a better hotel, pick Hilton or Rihga Royal. Don’t waste your money on Oriental. It combines the worst of every hotel.

::Unfortunately this hotel wasn’t as good as it looked online. The bed was not firm, it was hard. Like extremely hard. It was a king bed made my putting two small beds together. There’s a long hard seam right down the middle of the bed. There are only black out curtains on one window, so we were up at 6am every morning because it was so bright. The electricity is turned off in each room unless you put your keycard in the holder by the door, so don’t expect to use the mini fridge right away as it will be warm. Make sure to leave a card in the holder after you leave so the fridge can keep cooling all day. In the plus side, the tub is super deep and comfortable for soaking and a little welcome reception from 3pm-9pm with snacks and “chi-bo” a yummy sweet drink. Online they advertise laundry service, but what they means is they will do your laundry for you and is charged per piece. A shirt was 600 yen and pants 800 yen. We couldn’t use it anyways as they stopped the service during Golden week. We used the laundromat down the street instead. The location of this hotel was nice. It was a little far from Hiroshima station, but easily accessible via walking or street car. We used the street car quite a bit!

::We had a corner King room and the views were just amazing! Keep in mind if your tall the shower might be a little short but overall the room was pretty large. Some snacks and coffee available in the eve which was a great treat. It's a great location and an easy walk to most of the main things to see. Not far from transit for the places that are a little farther. Overall a very nice and reasonably priced hotel.

::Beautiful view. Not beautiful room. What I liked: Reception helped move me to a non-smoking room after they realized I accidentally ordered a smoking room. The lobby and cafe were high-end in appearance. The view from our hotel windows was abundant and beautiful. The shower/bathroom layout is unique. I like the red bench in my room. What I didn't like: The bed is pretty firm for a hotel. The room could've been cleaner. Small spots on the walls. Small stains on the carpet. Dust near the phone. The wooden shelf under the mirror needs to be resurfaced or replaced. Breakfast is too expensive for what is available.
