Great place for an inexpensive tasty bite. They had 2 vegan choices, one soy broth and the other veggie broth. Order and pay outside and they will seat and serve you. The vegan options also say “halal” for those needing that choice. Clean, friendly, and fast service.

This was one of the 10 ramen shops located at the Ramen street on top of Kyoto Station. As it was 11am, we were the first few customers and ordered the signature ramen, the dark soy sauce ramen, the salted miso ramen, dumplings and black curry rice. Service was fast then. Overall, the portion of the ramen were ok, they were satisfactory but not fantastic. The soups were overly salty (not the salty miso ones that's even worse) and the charsiew were hard and not fresh. As for the dumplings, they were nicely cooked and yummy. The black curry rice was also salty. I think we have tried better ones, that are cheaper and need not be the so called "5th time winner of the Tokyo ramen show". But it was a good experience and eye-opening experience for us. When we were leaving, we noticed that there were many people queuing at the next door and the other ramen shops but not this one! Last year, when we came here, we tried the Chinese version ramen, they were quite good (you can checkout my then review here) and thought this time round we try a new shop and so chosen this one!

Finally, ramen koji has a vegan ramen again! Open all days and hours that ramen koji is, this is a great spot for a vegan and/or halal meal around Kyoto Station!

They serve vegetables only ramen, which is halal and muslim friendly. I am truly grateful for the thoughtfulness and to have this option near Kyoto station. I just wish they add more halal options. They don't have to go all the way and get halal beef or chicken, but maybe they can add something with only fish or shrimp or any seafood.

Dunno why it gets this many bad reviews, the toyama black ramen is unique and delicious(you can choose to have extra onion too), the portion size is more than generous, it's great ramen.
