To good to be true. Beautiful and traditional experience on our journey. We were so surprised about the ambient, the style, the spacious and comfortable rooms, the bath, the traditional breakfast and the lovely staff members.

According to their website, Kaigetsu (海月) is an inn which was originally founded back in the Meiji era. So while it is a little old and worn out, it still has a very nice and quaint ambiance. The room I reserved was clean and everything worked, so as long as you are not nitpicky, the inn and its facilities are more than good enough. The location is great and is only 5 minutes away from the local train station as well as a couple of tourist attractions. As this is a family-run inn, it has a very homely feel, rather than professional one, so it felt like I was staying at my grandmother’s house rather than a hotel 😅. Thus, this is a great place to experience a traditional Japanese inn and their hospitality. If you can speak a little Japanese, this is a good place to interact with the landlady and the other locals as well. I also ordered breakfast on the last day and it was delicious. When I stayed there, the old landlady seemed to be the only staff I saw. She is incredibly nice and friendly, and will greet and chat with guests as they enter and leave the inn. I wasn’t sure if there was anyone helping her out, so I tried to keep my room as clean as possible when I stayed. I even received some onigiri from her when I checked out, which I ate while on the train to Nagoya and it tasted delicious. I will definitely stay at Kaigetsu if I ever come back to Mie prefecture again, and I hope the old landlady continues to live a long and happy life 😊

Very nice hotel, although a bit old for its age. Room is clean and spacious. Owner is very nice and thank you for her handmade onigiri for our lunch!

Clean and large room with a modern toilet. Highly recommended as this is how a Ryokan should be. I did come on a night where they did not serve meals. It was regrettable but I got to go out and get food along the street and got some super fresh food too. Though dated, the ladies running the space are hardworking and they are doing well!
