::Great service, average rooms, far away from everything, so if you need to go to town for food, you need a taxi or car. For the food option, there's a ramen place in the basement level open from 7 pm. You can reserve their kaiseki dinner for evening meals. There are no restaurants on site, contrary to what is advertised. We had to cab it to town, cost around jpy 1500. There's a buffet style breakfast served with a variety of food choices, both traditional and western. It was adequate. For a 4 or 5 star hotel, disappointing. For a 3 star, expected. It was a cafeteria, not a restaurant. Facilities - the sand onsen was fantastic. The staff that ran it were great. The onsen was also wonderful. There were different onsens right next to the sand onsen. The front desk staff, as well as the rest of the hotel staff, were all exceptional. Rooms - traditional and western together. No complimentary water provided. We had to purchase bottles from a vending machine. The room was a bit musty because of the carpet. The hallways were also musty, again, the carpets. There were random air fresheners that pumped out pine scent, which was reminecent of pine sol. We traveled extensively throughout kyushu and stayed in various hotels and ryokan. I would rate this place as midrange. It probably had been top tier years ago but is showing signs of wear. It's geared towards the bus load of weekend tourists.

::Fantastic experience. Thanks for an update our room, it was awesome. We can taste almost all of local foods from Kagoshima in the restaurant and also we had traditional breakfast, too! I wish I could go back again in near future.

::We knew this was going to be a large scale ryokan experience so we braced ourselves for crowds, tour groups and noise. Overall, I’d say it’s great fun for families with children and large groups, but may not be so for travellers looking for a piece of quiet. The onsen area was massive but many pools were in maintenance. The outdoor baths could use some much needed landscape work and an modernisation. Same goes for the room. The foods were decent, showcasing local ingredients, and we had a private booth to ourselves, which was great for privacy. The staff, especially the elderly Japanese ladies are so lovely. They are the highlights of our stay. All in all, the hotel needs a much needed uplift and to utilise the view and landscape outside, rather than keeping the guests from the ocean view (especially at the breakfast buffet venue). I’d like to see some major rework on the interior before I decide to return. P.s. please give a special thanks to the young lady at the shop who helped me with international stamps!

::Highly recommended for families traveling with kids. This is by far the most kid-friendly onsen we’ve ever been to in Japan, and my son loved it. The giant onsen was the highlight of the stay. We are already excited to book another stay for his spring break.

::The reason this hotel was chosen because there is sand bath within the hotel(extra charge). An old school hot spring hotel. The cost to stay here is expensive. Everything will cost you $. You CANNOT bring camera or cell phone in sand bath, why? Because they have a photographer walking around, asking if you need a ¥1000 photo to be taken. The front desk lady was excellent. Other then that, dinner was great too.
