  I ordered the tempura fish on rice set meal. It came with miso soup and pickles. Very simple looking dish. I was worried why the price was double the average, but my first bite confirmed it. The taste is not average: it has gentle nuances and well balanced flavours. The texture is very satisfying. There are hidden flavours and surprises you cannot see with your eyes. The miso soup is usually not my favourite food, but here it has a deep flavour, salty but not too salty, it was just right and it matched well with the other foods in the set. I am very happy with this meal and want to eat here again. While eating, will not feel too heavy on the stomach but by the end you feel satisfied and full. Just one thing, I have pollen allergy, and for some reason my allergy was activated inside the restaurant. Outside in the corridor I was feeling fine again. Maybe the air conditioning or plants in the restaurant caused it.

  Best meal I tried in Kyoto. Must try the seasonal recommendation and the mackerel sushi.

  Read the English menu but ended up going for the special that wasn't on there. Pretty sure it was red snapper sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. The lemon juice/sauce that came with it worked incredibly well with the fish and rice. I probably did myself a disservice by adding it to the noodles as they tasted great on their own

  Had chazuke set meal and my personal preference is chazuke from the other stall right outside this restaurant. However their mackerel sushi was very delicious! Highly recommend you to try as this dish is local to this region. If you are short in time, take out is available too. The line was long when we came around 1 pm weekend, we took number from the machine and waited about 15 minutes. Location of this restaurant is above JR shinkansen train station, iSetan collection of restaurants/food. They have English menu, staffs were kind and helpful despite language barrier. I may come back to try something else.

  There was no English menu so idk what exactly I ordered but one was mackerel giant sushi and the other was kaisendon with noodle (which was not udon since it was thin noodle). Everything was very tasty. Seems like each dish was prepared with care. Prepared to wait tho. Great place.
