::We had booked 4 nights here expecting the standard InterContinental resort experience and quality. Sadly, despite the staff doing all they could (we never met or ever talked with a manager), our experience here was simply terrible at a level that isn’t just unacceptable, but offensive. We left after 1 night. Again, the staff were excellent, it’s is not their fault this resort needs to be torn down and rebuilt. And it is also not their fault, IHG has chosen to brand what is at best a 2+ hotel as an InterContinental which they promote relentlessly as a 5-star experience. This is at best an aging Holiday Inn that hasn’t been refurbished since 2004…20 years. The rooms are disgusting, everything is stained and worn and would appear they’ve given up completely on upkeep. Even the floors and walls in the lobby were filthy and appeared to not to be cleaned in months if not longer. Location is excellent and the grounds are nice where upkeep has continued. The breakfast spread despite being priced at above $40 was as bad as it gets. It was a Covid disaster in the making. I can’t imagine this hotel will be open in a year, and if local authorities checked it out, it would probably be shutdown, especially considering they have shutdown the Air Con in the lobby completely, which has created a very bad mildew smell, and the entire air con system for the rooms smells of mold and gives you a sore throat if you stay in the rooms very long. We had 5 nights booked in Ishigaki after this stay at the InterContinental there but canceled that right away after the first night here. Again staff is great, but this place is a disaster. I’ll never trust IHG again. I can’t imagine the experience you get if you’re not a Platinum or higher status wise. The pictures I included are from the room we were upgraded too. I honestly fell scammed.

::Not deserving of the InterContinental title. I’m going to preface this by saying that I am an Intercontinental Platinum Ambassador for over five years and have stayed in locations for the franchise across the world. I am greatly disappointed with this establishment. It is a relic of the past and a reminder of the glory days of Japan. The interior of the hotel is run down and the room I was assigned with is filled with scratch marks like it’s from The Shinning. Check in also took me nearly half a hour because only a single receptionist was serving a line that was only getting longer and longer. It is also located far from everything else and the food that the hotel serve is probably the worst I’ve ever had in Japan. I am surprised on how they could even butcher a simple scrambled eggs. The only decent offering I’ve had was from the Omelet station. The “bright spot” mentioned by others in the Beef Station was frankly underwhelming and a rip off to me. Overall, this hotel should be avoided at all cost and a renovation is much needed before it is even close to worthy of being an Intercontinental Hotel.

::It’s a great resort if you are looking to spend some relaxing time in Okinawa. It is about 1h 20m from the airport but there is an airport shuttle (not run by hotel) as a public transit but I’d recommend renting a car so you could drive around the island. It is near the middle of the island so a good spot to visit the northern part of the island (Ocean Expo park, for example). Room is small by American standard but staff is fantastic and service a top notch. Breakfast is average or just above, but as an IHG platinum, you do get a discount (¥2000 adult) or included in your rates. There is a private beach (5 min walk) but it looks to be man made as sand is very coarse. A pool with a waterfall. Public bath and sauna available also. Overall, I would come back here if I were to visit Okinawa again.

::They kick you out of the beautiful pool at 6pm. Why does a 5-star hotel kick you out of a pool at 6pm? You have to book restaurants inside through a QR code and the 3rd party app. However you must book 4 hours before or the system tells you nothing is available for days. Asked the front desk to help us make a reservation at a local restaurant, the guy at front desk said we are closed. No one can help me call the restaurant. Finally made a booking for dinner, ask the hotel to organize a taxi, after dropping us off the hotel driver said the restaurant will call an let us know when to come get you. After dinner the restaurant said there are no taxis and the hotel said they will send us a car 1 hour later. We are only a 9min drive away.
