::The personally best hotel that I have ever stayed. Every corner is so photogenic and pleasing your eye. Their hospitality was amazing and so warm. You have an access point to free snacks, tea and coffee at the bar. You can get also free Umeshu and sake there before dinner time. You can take a private bath and public bath. I saw two monkeys on the next roof from the public bath! The long aisle floor is soft tatami, and you hear the healing music. This ryokan is built by connecting several old traditional houses renovated. They left the traditional Japanese part but incorporated some modern taste and style into it. You enjoy both the comfortable stay and a Japanese style view.

::Seeing other negative reviews on the rooms, my advice is be sure you know what you're selecting before booking. This rating is for the villa suites with private onsen but the food provided leaves more to be desired, it wasn't that inspiring and some of the food was outright tough (ie. steak), the supposedly best rice in Japan also felt like any other rice you'd eat in Japan

::Wow! This place is rich in history and Japanese culture. Family friendly with many spaces for quietly lounging, enjoying views, and sipping on espresso and iced tea (complimentary). The views from the room are breathtaking and cause instant lowering of blood pressure. š Room also has stocked fridge with drinks, pour over coffee with creamer and coffee supplied. Enough space for family of 5 to rest and enjoy a vacation together. Ryokan is close to food and shopping also if you need food variation. About 20 minutes from sledding and ski resorts.

::I like the presentation of the ryokan, simply a good mix of tradition and modernity. The room (Villa Suite Terrace) is spacious, very importantly, comes with a smart TV that you can watch Netflix in the big bed. Great outdoor bath enjoying onsen and snow simultaneously. Ryugon only provides shuttle bus service to the JR station once a day. Donāt forget to book it online in advance.

::Fantastic experience and highly recommend if ever visiting Niigata. Getting there wasnāt too difficult as they offer a shuttle once a day from across the nearby station which is reachable by Shinkansen. Food was amazing and gave a great tasting of the local specialties. Room was beautifully designed and on the more modern side so while less traditional feeling it definitely made for a very comfortable stay. Visited in winter and the room had no trouble staying warm. Highly recommend also getting one of the rooms with the private bath if possible as itās unbelievably convenient. The staff was extremely helpful and service was top notch and always very prompt. Snacks and drinks in the room were complimentary with daily bar service as well before dinner. The whole ryokan is beautiful with gardens dotted throughout and made for a very relaxing stay and a nice escape from the bustle of the cities.
