I had never tried this legendary ramen, even though they have branches in many countries, including my home country, Malaysia. I visited this original main shop on a Saturday, arriving at their opening time and waiting for less than 5 minutes. The signature shio ramen and miso ramen were delicious and suited my taste. The soup isn’t like typical Japanese ramen, which can be too heavy and salty. It’s light with just the right amount of saltiness for me. The limited-time rice dishes were just average though. The shop has a modern and comfortable feel, with wider seating and air conditioning. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

Thanks god their ramen is not as salty as other traditional shops. Staff is friendly and service are quick. We came at 13:30 on Sunday and it’s great we did not have to wait

Good ramen. I tried their branches in US, Canada, Malaysia and Singapore, and I think the ramen flavor is quite similar across most branches, not all. Kudos to them in maintenance a good standard internationally. Not easy.

The perfect ramen for me. The soup is so creamy, so rich, umami and gelatinous. I love the fact that I can taste all the good from the pork bone and meat not be overwhelmed by garlic aroma as other ramen i have tried. They have that special char siu made out of pork jowl, my favourite cut, which were cooked so tender that it really melt in your mouth. Small bowl is also available if you want to spare your tummy for other goodies in Asahikawa

I ordered the spicy miso ramen. When I saw the bowl I regretted ordering the spicy option. If I return to this shop again I will try the plain miso ramen. The spice is not that hot.. but the flavour completely dominates the broth and it’s not really a chilli spice flavour that I really liked. Somewhere between a kind of Thai sri racha sauce and a Korean kimchi style of chilli sauce. The noodles were good. The chashu was odd in that it seemed as though they were going for slow cooked tenderness but in fact the pork was quite tough in parts. I was left confused about whether they are going for the Hokkaido tough pork style or the modern ‘melt in your mouth’ fatty tender pork chashu style. Maybe trying to please everyone? I’m not sure. I will try to find another branch of this famous ramen chain on my travels.. and I will try the non spicy miso. I couldn’t really judge the quality of the miso broth underneath all that cheap tasting chilli sauce on top. The staff were very very kind and welcoming. The shop is modern and sleek.
