who knew oden could be this amazing… it’s a really cozy spot famous among locals. although we waited for about an hour, the food and service were all beyond our expectations! love love this place and we would definitely be back. take note you would have to write your order in japanese though!

This was quite an experience for me. It was about a 20 minute walk from my hotel, and with it snowing and sleeting for a good portion of the time, imagine my relief when I got to the place and realized that the line could mostly fit behind the door. Within the hour, I was seated; I have heard that the lines for this place are longer in the key travel months, so the clientele at the time was mostly a mixture of locals and a few hardy international tourists, mostly from other parts of Asia. As for the food, it was very good. I didn't have a lot, but I did get a decent collection of oden items, such as konnyaku (gelatinous yam cake), shirataki (that yam cake in noodle form, and no, it's NOT gluten-free pasta!), kurumafu (wheat gluten in a tire shape), chikuwa fish cake, satsuma fish cake, daikon, taro root, and a type of shellfish called baigai. All were excellent, but the kurumafu and the baigai were highlights for me. Broth quality was excellent and probably the best that I've had so far. The best thing in this place, however, was not even the oden. It was these homemade fish cakes that were quickly deep-fried and served with ponzu, listed on the board as miyukiage (clearly named after the shop). I'm not sure what it was made from, though they put chunks of shrimp in them, but those were the lightest, fluffiest, and tastiest fish cakes that I personally have ever eaten. I'm definitely getting those again when I come back. Overall, it was a delicious place that I would recommend for anyone that's interested in traditional Japanese ingredients and local specialties.

Waited in rain and cold for 2hrs. Cannot be more healing to have a bowl of warm Oden. Cash only. English menu available. You won't regret the long wait.

An oden restaurant I would definitely recommend to my friends who have some knowledge of Japanese. While taste is subjective, I must give full marks for the exceptional service and cheerful atmosphere! I highly recommend trying the oden, particularly the egg (I know it's a weird recommendation), as well as the beef tendon stew. The grilled options like cod fish, beef, gizzard, and pork are also highly recommended. And don't forget to indulge in the delightful mikan (small orange) wine; it's truly a treat.
