万座温泉 日進舘 https://www.manza.co.jp/ We stumbled on this @11000円 package all-inclusive with a return bus departing from Shinjuku very hard to refuse. Unbelievable offer, the bus trip alone takes 4.5 hours each way. It was a sightseeing trip for us, plus overnight accommodation in the snow and beautiful onsens as well as delicious meals and free night entertainment. The hotel is fairly big, they have old as well as new buildings. We opted for the original old building closer to the reception and were not disappointed. No issue if you do not speak Japanese, a number of the staff speak English fluently. We would not hesitate to recommend it, especially for those who visit Tokyo, and have extra days to kill.

The hospitality is great, the facilities are beautiful, the onsen are amazing. The outdoor one is especially wonderful in the winter. With the cold air, it warms ypu up to where the cold is nothing and the balance of cold air and hot water is amazing. The other facilities are wonderful as well. Nearby hotels have mixed bathing, but at this facility, the onsen are separate. However, you can get a private onsen for 45 mins at a time for an additional 2000 yen. It is wonderful if you have tattoos and cannot do public onsen or come with a partner for an intimate moment. If you travel by train, call when booking to reserve a seat on the bus from Karuizawa Station to the hotel. The check in and out procedures are great and I had a wonderful time. 5000/5 stars. The food is also incredible. I recommend the dinner and breakfast buffet. The cheapest room for dinner and breakfast for 2 is 24000 yen, which is really affordable and cheapest in the area. There is also 1 English speaking staff member and he is very kind. To answer the question posed in the reply, I live in Gunma, but I recommend foreign travelers and locals alike try it. It is somewhat near some other big onsen in Gunma, but if you want a more cozy, natural experience, come here. It is also next to a ski resort, so you can do both!

I stayed here 2 nights. Very authentic Onsen with real natural hot spring water from volcano. When you walk around the place, you can see natural hot water is flowing even surrounded by snow which is unbelievable scene for me. It’s very old, but clean, traditional and very well maintained. We were almost only foreigners in the entire place and there was only one staff who speaks English, so it was a bit challenging, but very interesting experience at the same time. Also, there are many native Japanese visitors who are regular customers for a long time. When I talked to them, they were really curious how we found this local onsen. Let me breakdown more. Onsen - amazing to take a hot bath with mountain view. There are 3~4 bath places and each one has different water temperature. Surprisingly, an old lady checks and keeps the temperature all day long, so when you go to same bath tomorrow, water temperature will be same. Never ever bring your silver accessories to the onsen. My wife’s silver rings turned black right away when she started bath. Just not wear any silver when you are here.

The hot spring has really amazing water. The baths are great. The rooms are spacious. The location is in a remote parts of asama-yama at an altitude of 1800m. The area is beautiful, and the view on the way is stunning. If you are lucky, you might encounter monkeys and bears in the wild. Food is not amazing, but is all-you-can-eat buffet style. Some of the meal service staff were foreigners who spoke little Japanese or English and I had trouble communicating with them...
