I’ve been at many Ryokans in Hakone, Matsuyama, Nara, Kyoto, Tsubaki, and Ise, but this was by far my favorite to date!! Amazing location next to a local forest, very easy to explore the local village with its shops, temples, sake bar, and public bath. Incredible traditional tatami rooms with super comfortable futon, private outdoor onsen bath and forest view! And perfect kaiseki food topped by impeccable service. Thanks to Kochou staff, I’ve made my engagement proposal weekend unforgettable! ❤️

I gave it a ☆ count of 0 because of the food, not the location. (Unfortunately) The rice was cold. Mr. Nakai said, ``I'll bring you something warm,'' and brought a second bowl, but it was cold. All of them had similar strong country flavors. I didn't like boring dishes, so I was only able to accept light dishes until the next day. By the way, I thought that rural cuisine was rare and good for people in the city. Also, the bed mat was too hard. Stink bugs came in during the night and it was difficult to catch them on the way. The temperature of the hot spring was too low for me. (Good thing) Mr. Nakai, an elderly man, came to meet us and accompany us to see us off. As if I couldn't recommend it enough, I was kind enough to say, ``You don't have to force yourself to eat,'' and we had a fun conversation, which lightened the mood. Overall, the food was disappointing, but the French stew meat, vegetables, and pickles were very delicious. The room also had an open-air bath, which was very nice. (Total) If you could change to French cuisine, I would go again.

Very close to museums and extraordinary meal. Came by for lunch and enjoyed a very authentic sashimi meal. Highly recommend.
