It was a very disappointing experience in the Kishigon Ryokan. The staff are afraid of speaking English and it seemed we were not welcomed as we are foreigners. In our room, there is no window in both toilet and bathroom but the lighting is very dim inside. This gave us an uncomfortable feeling that we had not experienced in any of the onsen hotels before. The environment of the open-air bath which locates in a separate building is not as good as seen on the pictures. The large bath is at fair standard.

Cons The bathroom in our room smelled horrible, wet, and moldy, to the point where I was breathing out of my mouth The pillows and beds were incredibly flat and uncomfortable compared to the much more affordable, family-run ryokan we have been to The fridge was loud and whining all night, so we ended up having to unplug it to sleep, spoiling our goods The services they boast, like massage chairs and such, are all extra (this was not the case, again, for any of the family-run ryokan we have been to) A staff member made fun of me and my friend at breakfast, to our faces, in Japanese, saying stuff like, "I wonder if they can even use chopsticks," to her coworker, while giggling. We aren't Japanese, so she must not have known we understood her. She continued to mock us. Overall very disappointing for how expensive it was. We have been at ryokan in other onsen areas for 1/4 the price per night, and they were much pleasanter stays. Super bummed out. Definitely go for small, family run joints. Pros The baths are beautiful and were empty most of the time Most employees were kind and attentive and spoke many languages Breakfast was ok The room was spacious

The location is perfect. We can see a super view from here. We had a very large room on 5th floor. The 3 onsens were nice. The breakfast and diner were excellent. The staffs are so kind and helpful.

Located in the heart of Ikaho's stone step slope, this beautiful ryokan is perfect for you if your main focus is exploring the historic area and/or Mt. Haruna nearby. The baths are certainly nice enough as well as the bedrooms, and the staff are kind and helpful. The breakfast is amazing too!
