2024.3.21 Visited around 15:30 I visited the store once first, selected most of the products, then strolled around the streets and made my purchases around 5pm. I wanted to buy an individual package of Murasuzume (150 yen), but as I was thinking about it, it seemed like it was the last one and it was gone. It can't be helped because the business hours are until 18:00. I was grateful that the cash register was prompt.

Traditional sweets and shaved ice cafe. Local renowned handmade desert available here. There's also a seating area where you could rest up and enjoy a snack with green tea.

Tachibana Kodo, located in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, is a Japanese sweets shop that combines the atmosphere of good old Japan with modern sensibilities. The restrooms are clean, which is helpful, you can eat inside the store, the prices are cheap, and the shaved ice revives my soul. The whole store is clean and nice, and the parfait store across the street was crowded and had a bad attitude, so this was the right choice. ①Location: Located in the center of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, it is an attractive location that makes it easy to stop by on your way to sightseeing. The store's exterior, which blends in with the surrounding beautiful cityscape, is eye-catching. ②Facilities and menu: The interior of the store is unified with a calm Japanese taste, and there is a wide selection of sweets ranging from traditional Japanese sweets to seasonal sweets. Set menus that can be enjoyed with Japanese tea are also popular. ③Attractiveness: The biggest appeal of Tachibana Kodo is the exquisite beauty and deep flavor of the Japanese sweets that are handmade one by one by artisans. The elegant sweetness that makes the most of the flavor of the ingredients will satisfy the hearts of those who visit. There are also limited seasonal products, so you'll discover new flavors no matter how many times you visit. --- Tachibana Kodo in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is loved by many people for its wonderful location, facilities and menu, and the beauty and depth of taste of its Japanese sweets. When sightseeing in Kurashiki, be sure to visit this spot as you can experience the flavor and tradition of this area.

I had a set of coffee and “murasuzume”, a traditional local sweet like a thin pancake filled with sweet red beans paste. Both were good, nice traditional Japanese music ( shamisen) and it was a good place to kill the time, have a break and shelter from the rain. Clean toilet and high covid measures. Very small place for eat-in but OK for wheelchairs. I wish they could have more space and more comfy seats but for ¥550 for this set, it was very good! Recommend for a break and good coffee.

After reading that the murasuzume is Kurashiki’s signature sweet, I had to come to this traditional shop to try it. It turns out that it’s just anko (sweet bean paste) wrapped in a thin pancake dough. Nothing special about it. The texture is what the Japanese call “funya funya”. I’ll keep searching for the perfect Kurashiki omiyage.
