  We spent a night in this hotel to experience the onsen. The staff were so friendly, they speak English. Good onsen, very good price when you book with dinner and breakfast included (Japanese menu). Definitely will recommend to stay here :)

  We stayed here 2 times back in 2016 and 2022 winter seasons Food and rooms are exceptional. During those times we availed of the room with outdoor bath, totally worth it. Minibar is also included in the price and all meals (3x) included. Staff are friendly most of the time, sometime language is a bit of a miss, as for the hotel its showing its age but definitely still beautiful. We are coming back this Feb 3, 2024 and will update this review again

  Really enjoyed our stay. The multi course dinner and breakfast were amazing - making use of fresh local produce. Onsen both public and private were clean, good temperature and give you a good view of the gorge. You can also do a nice walk by the river with scenic red leaves in autumn. Service was a bit hit and miss depending who you speak to but overall, it was great and would love to go back!

  I didn’t stay in this hotel but I stayed at the sister hotel 吉祥やまなか and I came here to enjoy the public bath. Even though I was not really the guests here but I still can feel the hospitality from the staff especially a female Japanese lady. The bath area was nice. I like the two layers of the outdoor bath. The view was great and you can hear the noise from the river which is very soothing. Caution! There is a trekking trail right across the river and the privacy may not be the best when you’re in the outdoor bath. Between privacy and the view, it is very hard to take care of both. They also provide shuttle services back and forth to my hotel. On my check out day, the female staff I mentioned earlier went beyond and took me to my next hotel where was like 15-20 minutes walk. She was concerned about the distance by walking as well as the safety from the cars. That was very sweet and touching indeed. I really appreciate their hospitality.

  What can I say… I first thought to leave 2 stars, but the staff was kind and the food was pretty good. The best parts of the meal cost extra, which meant the already-expensive dinner felt a bit pricey. The room w/ a wooden bath certainly wasn’t worth the price for the upgrade from a regular tub, compared to other places I had considered. I’ll certainly stay elsewhere next time, but ultimately I’d say it was simply a 3-star hotel for 4-star prices… Just not worth it.
