  I have used it several times. The building has a retro feel and a quiet atmosphere where you can relax. Many of the staff members were foreigners, but they were all very kind. There is a private bath, and meals and meals are served in the private room, so you can feel at ease even with small children.My child was very friendly and was happy to be held by the staff. The rice was very delicious with a seasonal menu using local ingredients. Above all, the hot springs are very nice! I would like to come again

  Ikaho Onsen Yokotekan is a traditional Taisho-era ryokan with beautiful, albeit dated features. The location is ideally and very conveniently close to Ikaho Shrine and top sections of the Stone Steps. On our first day, we arrived later than intended and were unfortunately not able to contact the property either directly, or via our booking platform Agoda to communicate this and that we would be checking in late. As a result, we were not served dinner on our first night as the property thought that we would not be staying with them and were confused and not initially friendly or welcoming at all when we finally arrived around 8pm after long, tiring travels that day. This was awkward and not the best first impression of the property, also coupled with our basic japanese and not many (barely any) members of staff speaking a lick of english. Once finally checked in we asked for a late private onsen slot which was reserved for us then an early breakfast the next morning, which was arranged fairly smoothly without too much difficulty. The Private Onsen was great, however our room was very cold when we got back upstairs with only one rickety, aged heated which was noisy and made the air even drier. An older member of staff woke us early the next morning at around 6:50am to remove our futons ahead of the 7:30am Breakfast we had requested - Which we thought was a little premature and left us freezing cold in the room for around 35minutes whilst we waited. Word of warning - Rooms do get verrry cold during the winter months due to the age and construction of the building, especially the older 1920s wing which we stayed in. You can ask for an additional heater/s which help. However night time will be especially chilly as expected. Dinner was exceptional on our second night as were both breakfasts we were served. The soups, fish and beef with soybean broth and tofu being some of the best dishes we had tasted on our travels so far. The staff kindly arranged a taxi to the station the next morning for us which made our onward journey much easier. One particular staff member, a great Nepalese gentleman was fantastic and made our stay a lot easier and more enjoyable than it otherwise likely would have been - A special massive thank you to him! Namaste sir. Overall a good stay and good value for money at such an iconic and storied establishment. But if you are travelling around Japan, either try to book directly with Yokotekan themselves, definitely not via Agoda unless you literally have no other options. Also, try to arrive as early if you can and be prepared to book private onsen slots, dinners, breakfasts etc. Once you arrive.

  location was good. but onsen was a bit smaller than i expected.
