I’ve been skiing for 25 years and no equipment has ever been close to being as horrendous as what can be rented at the hotel. The hotel itself is old and tired. The buffet performs well in terms of variance but that is the only good thing I can say about it. The staff is friendly and the hotel is fairly priced but know what you are going into. If you are staying for multiple days in Hakuba, stay somewhere else, rent equipment somewhere else, and take the shuttle to Cortina. The ski resort itself is good - we can for the powder and it delivered.

Such a cute hotel! I went recently for a school trip and it was a really nice location and pretty view. The beginner slopes weren’t really beginner though, they are very steep so be careful. The food is quite overpriced and not good though, hence the 4 star review. My university said they would have vegetarian food, which they did, but the dinner buffet didn’t have a large selection for vegetarian dishes. The slopes and hotel are well maintained though. Also the WIFI barely works so please be warned. The massage chairs are cheap and nice. The onsen said no Tattoos, but I was able to enter with many tattoos and I saw many other women with tattoos as well. As long as you’re respectful it seems to be okay. The onsen had a lot of different baths and a sauna. One had a very pretty mountain view with a waterfall inside! The cold bath was very nice as well. My favorite was a mineral bath. After bathing they have many shampoos/ lotions/ face wash for sampling and they sell them in the gift shop. Overall it was a fun time and good experience, I may just ski somewhere with easier slopes next time:)

Good snow in the top and in the back country. Buggs in the rooms windows and bathroom. The food in the resturant (looks more like a cantina) were mediocre at best. And there was a whole prosess of getting a reservation just to eat. The tea lounge was only open from 11am to 03pm. And it was the most inefficient place i have ever been to, with all the cupons and and interactions involved just the get a beer and a pizza(witch you had to make your self)! Transport too and from are also horrible. No afterski.

Bit of a review of a recent winter trip. Room: If you get there early, don't expect to check in until 2 ~ 3 pm. It also depends on your room and booking. was hoping for a nicer room and booked super early bird, but got just an ok room. Beds are firm’ish Tatami is nice. The bathroom is a bit dated. In winter the rooms can also be pretty hot, but was good we could open the windows to let in some cool air. The Tap Water: Possibly one of the underrated things is the water, the water here tastes great!!!! Service: The staff were pretty good, in some cases it does depend on who you are talking to and your level of Japanese as to the response you get. I think as a general rule if you are courteous you will also be treated as such. Location: The location is a 10/10 it's got that retro Bavarian/Japanese ski lodge vibe. Experience with ski runs will vary depending on experience and safety as some runs may be closed depending on snowfall in winter. Ski Runs & Lifts: There are several ski runs and lifts, the main run down the mountain to in front of the hotel is relatively wide and pretty easy with room to move. Lifts when we went were pretty quiet and easy to get. Not the greatest place for people to learn to ski or snowboard as it's a little steep. Ski & Snowboard Lessons: If you get downstairs in the morning you can book a ski or snowboard lesson at the desk just in front of the lifts when coming down. You will need to speak some Japanese. Lessons are around 5000 yen for 1 hour. Cash Only. The Instructors are great. Ski Rental: The equipment seemed ok and the staff seemed happy to help. The rental price seemed ok, I think with all ski rentals they can end up adding up. Availability and sizes seemed good, we were sizes S, M and L and all got our gear and snowboard/ ski boots in the sizes we needed. NOTE: If you are renting all your gear, make sure you bring goggles and gloves. They are not provided and you will be directed to go buy some (at a not-so-cheap price) Ski Lockers: Lockers seem convenient right next to the ski rental area and a short walk to the door. Breakfast & Dinner (Hotel Restaurant): There are several options to pick from with the buffet, from general Japanese food, local specialty food and Western food. Did find that after 3 days was a bit repetitive, so a bit more variety might have been nice. Were some extra costs, for all you can drink at dinner 1800yen (optional) Lunch (Hotel Cafe): The curry and make-your-own pizza is ok. Not cheap but not super expensive. Lunch (Coffee Van Outside): Toasted sandwiches were awesome, pretty big for the price and tasted great. The coffee was also great. Onsen: Onsen seems well looked after, locker room is relatively minimal. Bring your room towels as towels are not provided in the Onsen. The variety of different baths is great. Bus: There is a bus to and from Minamo Otari station, times are limited so good to check. Is possible to get a train from there down to Hakuba station? There are other busses also if going to other ski parks, and possibly to Hakuba (but didn't use these) Facilities: NO ATMs: If you want to use cash to buy anything or pay for lessons, Bring Cash. Billiards & Table tennis: good it's there but is $10 for 1 hour, which is not bad (where else could you go!) Game Centre: there are some UFO catches (claw machines) and other games downstairs. Vending Machines: There are plenty of vending machines for soft drinks and alcohol. slightly more expensive than general prices (but where else could you go!) Other expenses: Lift Passes: if you booked a package with lift passes they will still charge you 500 yen per pass at checkout, which you can then refund by putting the pass back in a ticket machine to the side of the reception. Onsen: if you booked a package they will still charge you 100 yen per person per night, even if you don't use it. Wifi: The hotel wifi is not great, but also keep in mind is an old'ish hotel up on a mountain. We brought our own wifi and that worked fine up there.

One star ...Why? Location exceptional ...Service great.....Rooms good. Then why one star? Night skiing only open to students....Buffet way way way overpriced for very very average food.....no wifi reception in rooms.....can't do this can't do that. Only half of ski runs open. Won't ever do Cortina again.
