  We’d arrived from Kushiro after driving for hours, and while traffic was easy to navigate, parking was a crazy nightmare for this non Japanese speaking nor reading foreigner. There was no parking attendant around, and it obviously looks like an automated car park. The only sign was on Japanese and my toddler level of Japanese meant it was lost on me. I rated service based on the receptionist who checked us in, who spoke WAY too fast despite requesting her to slow down. She couldn’t find our reservation for whatever, until my wife showed her the confirmation. Perhaps the silliest was when she kept slamming the credit card into the machine the wrong way: without the chip inserted. She kept telling us that the card don’t work, until I looked down and realised the mistake. Had the hardest time trying not to roll my eyes as I corrected her. She also made it clear that she doesn’t care that we’re struggling to understand her. Which is a terrible pity considering the Japanese government is desperate for people to explore outside of the usual tourist traps. The hotel in Nemuro and Sounkyo had printed instructions in international languages and pictures to help facilitate. I’m sure staff and guests would appreciate. For a city with SO much land, the Central Area of Obihiro seemed really squashed: several of the hotels actually shared parking, the (attempt) automated parking, etc. the rooms are as tiny as the ones in a metropolis like Tokyo. My wife and I had to walk sideways to get past each other. Location wise, it’s right smack in the middle of the city, it’s just a pity the only day and night we spent in the city was a holiday, so it looked like a ghost town. But in the evening, the izakayas came alive with patrons. Do check them out! Some even have English menus (not the famous roasted pork bowl place at the train station)

  wifiが It is conveniently located close to the station and restaurants, etc. But, the wifi speed is terribly slow. Could not do online meetings. The line drops out many times. The carpeting in the hallways was gelled up due to old age, and some requests to the front desk were not communicated to the other staff members. Overall, it was hardly a comfortable place to stay.

  Considering the price it was good. We paid about 3000¥ per person and got a small room, that was not at all impressive but fully functional as a hotel room that could accommodate us for the night. Beyond that however it is great that they have and onsen. However the men‘s onsen was a little small in my opinion, but fine overall (it‘s great to have and onsen at this price in the first place). Also there was free coffee next to the reception in the morning (which was great for us, because we had booked without breakfast). So for a budget stay in Obihiro, I think it‘s fine.

  ★Located in the centre of Obihiro city. Easy to find 5-10 mins walk from JR Obihiro station. ★Welcome canned beer give away available limited for New customer (Apps required). ★COVID-19 precautions are adequate. As a japanese tourist, this is Clean and Calm, Comfortable hotel in Obihiro. Reception is Nice informed and Friendly atmosphere. Morning Buffet was nice! variety of Vege, Non vege meals are available and well organized. 👍👍👍 Free WiFi available. Good comfy clean bed. Free Espresso machine at restaurant and Medium sized public bath on 1F. Laundromat area on 6F.
