The building is a little on the older side and not super well kept compared to other accommodations but still comfortable to be in. The staff there don’t speak too much English but are very kind nonetheless. Dinner and breakfast was an amazing kaiseki meal. The indoor onsen was quite standard. There’s outdoor onsens open during the day - one mixed and one separated. The mixed one is 100% mixed; the entrance into the onsen is shared as well. For the women’s outdoor onsen, it is very close to the sulfur steam so the smell can be very strong. The rooms are cosy. It was cold at night when i stayed and they had no heater, but the blankets were very warm.

The best discovery among all the onsens we visited in our tour of Tohoku. The outdoor onsens are particularly spectacular with magnificent views over fumeroles on the nearby mounts. The indor onsen is also nice and very peaceful. But the biggest surprise was the food. We had the sake with a grilled fist soaking in it. Bear meat curry rice and nabe with wild mushrooms and rolls of pressed. We liked it so much that we came back the next day. We don’t know about the rooms as we did not stay there overnight.

To get to this rustic ryokan, I recommend to drive there. The jounery there, we enjoyed the great view of the autumn surrounding. I find the room is relatively big. Instead of usually futon setup on the floor, they have futon beds. We were the only foreigners during our stay. The staff here mostly knows very little English. Sometime, we need to use Google Translate to communicate. Nevertheless, the staff did their best in the communication. To reach the outdoor onsen, we have to walk quite a distance downhill. The view was quite nice, surrounded by autumn trees, and volcanio hot springs. The onsen is quite open. Do take note that, the bathing time is limited to the Sun light. There is no light leading to there.

Stayed for one night in October 2022. Not many people were there, the rooms were very old, and there was no heater in the room. Outside was 3 degrees Celsius when I arrived and it was getting colder. I did not measure the room temperature but my room was VERY cold. Food was good, hot springs were fantastic. I would not recommend an overnight stay, just a day to the hot springs

Incredible place. The hot volcanic water burst out. Muddy and hot. There is a hotel if you like to stay here. You can come here by car or by bus. I saw a bus stop there. It is not very often though. Just 2-3 times a day. You can have an outdoor bath. There is a male and female sections. They are all public type, Japanese style. The scenery is spectacular. 600 yen per adult.
