::Attempting to summarize this restaurant in a couple of positive buzzwords would be unfair, so I'll try my best to convey our true emotions in a slightly longer format. Arriving in Tsuruga on our 14th day in Japan, we stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring a beautiful residential neighborhood on a lovely Saturday evening. Immediately, we were warmly greeted by the entirety of the staff, and even by some of the clients who were enjoying their meals ❤. We were then gleefully taken to a traditional, authentic Zashiki-type table, and started working our way through the Japanese menu on the tablet, by translating using the apps on our phones. However, suddenly, the kindest, most caring, loving and enthusiastic waitress ❤ greeted us in impeccable English and started explaining the menu's items to us, helping us to place our order. I truly wish we had asked you what your name is, but alas, thank you for everything. ❤ The food available in this restaurant is high quality, fresh, has great variety and is representative of Izakaya-type meals, made with the love and passion of home cooking (I should now also mention that the chef himself also came to our table in person to explain how to eat some of the meals ❤). Everything we ordered was truly delicious, from grill-it-yourself yakiniku, to assorted skewers, sushi, basashi horse sashimi, fried chicken (which came with a delicious mustard-wasabi-soy sauce, a genius idea), to the desserts, such as creamy Matcha ice cream and cream-filled frozen strawberries and, last but not least, to the special, on-the-house "surprises" we were offered, such as fresh, giant Muscat grapes given to us by the lovely owner ❤. You honestly can't go wrong with any of these, and if you are in doubt, just "osusume" any of the lovely waiters and you'll receive some great recommendations. The drinks were also varied and delicious, ranging from chūhai to a variety of sake and cocktails. At the end of our second night (since everything made us feel so good our first time around, we just had to come back!), we inquired about the fascinating barrels sitting on the counter, and our angelic waitress told us they contained some of the most special, strongest sake they had. After a shot, we were convinced, and appreciated the sweet, complex aroma. To say that this restaurant is a hidden gem would be an understatement. We entered it from Nihon, but arrived in tengoku, with regards to the food, drinks, atmosphere, but especially to the staff members with hearts and souls of gold ❤, which checked on us regularly, laughed and smiled with us and made us feel like we were partaking in a family meal all throughout. If you need even more proof of the hospitality of this family, we were even offered a drive to the hotel since we had partaken in a drinking session, which we fortunately did not need as we were still able to walk back, but this is the kind of care that you can expect to receive if you visit this fine establishment. If you're stopping by in Tsuruga (and maybe even if it's not in your itinerary), definitely add this restaurant to your list, and enjoy every moment of your meal! Our hearts ache from not being able to visit again for the remainder of the current Japan trip. Dōmo arigatō gozaimashita, gochisōsamadeshita, oishikatta desu, from the bottom of our hearts, and we can't wait to see you again on our next trip to Japan, which will definitely include a stop to Tsuruga!

::This is hands down one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at in my 34 years of existence. The food is beyond good ... It is transcendent. Creatures of both the land and sea are prepared with such care and finesse, the presentation and service are incredible, and the staff are friendly and welcoming and were incredibly helpful to my party of three tired, hungry, and typhoon displaced Americans. I will not be able to eat sushi back home in the US without thinking about this place, and wishing I was back here in Tsuruga. Thank you to the owner and his family for such an incredible dining experience ... I really hope I can come back again before I die. TRY THE LIVE SQUID IF THEY HAVE IT ... it's a next-level experience.🦑🦑
