I enjoyed using the rare mokutan spring without meals. We have provided basic information in the Jalan review, so here we will post some information that may be useful for future users. There are no vending machines on site. There is a vending machine in front of the adjacent inn, so you can purchase soft drinks there. The water that comes out of the faucet in the room is natural water collected nearby and is drinkable. There is a mini fridge in the room. The inn's official website states, ``As this is a Myoban Onsen inn, there is no refrigerator,'' but in reality there is one. I'll post a photo to give you an idea of the size of the refrigerator, but it has a fair amount of width and depth, so you can store it in the fridge even if you buy sashimi in front of the station or at a nearby supermarket. A bottle of mineral water is included, but as mentioned above, when you turn on the faucet, drinkable water comes out. There is no ice maker, so if you wish to use ice, you will need to bring your own. However, since the freezer space of the mini-fridge is small, there is a possibility that regular-sized bags of ice sold at convenience stores won't fit. We don't have a microwave, but the top and sides of the mini-fridge get pretty hot, so you can keep it warm by leaving it there. Regarding alcohol, the hotel information in your room states that you can order it through room service, but it is unclear if you can order alcohol if the hotel is not serving meals. I think it's safe to bring it in. There are no supermarkets or convenience stores in the neighborhood, but there is a souvenir shop and restaurant just up the hill, so I think you can get some food and drink there. There are quite a number of bus stops near the inn, so you may be able to take the bus to Kannawa or the station area, replenish food and drinks at a supermarket or convenience store, and then return to the inn. The stairs inside the inn are steep and there is a mysterious protrusion at the top of the side that does not have a handrail, so you must carefully go up and down the side of the handrail. The route to the detached hot spring building is quite dark at night (there are street lights, but I think there aren't enough of them). As a countermeasure, LED flashlights are provided in the entrance hall, but when I used them, I couldn't use them because the batteries were dead, so I think it's safer to bring your own flashlights. The illumination throughout the hostel is low, so it would be a good idea to carry a flashlight with you. I have posted the above as my impressions of what I actually used, but I believe that with sufficient preparation, you can have a comfortable overnight stay without meals.

I was able to enter the Mokuban spring, which I had always wanted to enter! The quality of hot water is excellent. When you lick a little hot water, it has a super strong acidity and iron taste! You can see how strongly acidic it is. However, I thought that my skin would be dry after taking a bath because it's highly acidic, but my skin felt surprisingly good, and I thought it might have some moisturizing properties. I was also grateful that the amenities were from Marks and Web, so they didn't leave behind any scent and didn't interfere with the scent of the hot springs. However, when I went to take a bath right after checking in, the hot water was extremely hot, even hotter than the public baths in Beppu, so you may need to be careful. It was so hot that I couldn't get into the bathtub properly without adding some water, but I guess I'd have to be careful if someone was in the bathtub next to me at the same time. The room I stayed in was very clean and the room wear was separate, so the accommodation environment was very comfortable. As of March 2024, I made a reservation because I was told that no meals would be provided, but for breakfast I was able to have bread and hot spring steamed eggs upon request. I was able to spend a very nice night thanks to the warm hospitality of the friendly host.

The hot spring is separate and has two bathrooms, each of which can be locked inside. There are two keys to the annex, so I borrow them from the main building. The hot spring water in the bathtub smells like mud. I think it has a similar effect to a mud pack because my hands feel different when I get out of the bathtub. I think it's a good hot spring. The road in front of the parking lot is narrow, so I think it may be difficult to stop a 3-number minivan in some cases. The host is friendly and has good customer service. Some people may be bothered by the low vibrations of the air conditioner, so I think it would be better to turn it off and go to bed. The facilities have been renovated and are clean. Check-in is until 9pm and curfew is until 11pm, so I took the 5pm ferry from Yawatahama from Ehime and couldn't make it by train, so I took the Kyushi Ferry by car.

After staying at Kannawa Onsen for 2 nights, we moved by bus. The inn is located on the way up the slope from the Myoban bus stop. I really liked the atmosphere around this slope, which had a nostalgic feel to it that made me feel like I was visiting my grandma's house in the countryside. The host's gentle smile, the proprietress' heartfelt dishes that are so beautiful and delicious that it's almost a waste to eat them. The portion is enough for the whole meal, but there are a lot of vegetables so it won't be heavy on your stomach. A precious jade-colored hot spring. Everything was so moving. I want it to last forever.
