::Loved the old Japan feel of the hotel from the moment you enter. Rooms have real tatami. Staff very friendly and made you feel like family. Scenic and peaceful countryside view from my room. Quality tea and snack provided. Onsen and food topnotch. Wish I could stay there every year.

::Amazing onsen (with lots of variety), food, and staff. Only complaint is some parts of the building seems a bit run down. The hotel is old so it’s understandable, but could use a little TLC here and there.

::Enjoyed five different kinds of onsens, almost all to myself (I didn’t meet much people)! The location is beautiful, quiet, spacious … and the hot spring there (Shima-onsen: 40,000 hot spring) is well known for curing the stomach and all kinds (40,000!) of other illnesses. The water has no color or smell, but felt silky and soft. I also liked their steam bath in the basement: not as hot as a sauna which was just right. Their dinner menu had a small twist (originality) and I enjoyed it too. I’m happy to visit again :)

::It is very beautiful in nature, there is a great spa, there is no spa problem in terms of hours, I recommend the employees friendly.

::We had the pleasure of staying 3 nights here in November 2019. Shima Tamura is an absolute gem. It's a fairly big quirky hotel that has been built over a long period of time. I think the oldest part is from the 1600s. The service was anything we could ask for, both in the reception and during meals. The food was amazing, and they did a great job accommodating our no meat diet. They have a nice selection of both indoor and outdoor baths. I especially enjoyed the view from the bath to the river and waterfall. It is definitely worth the detour to get here!
