I thought it was strange to be asked to bring an expired residence card. Even if you don't have that, you should be able to confirm it with another card or driver's license. If you need an expired residence card, please write on the homepage. Anything that isn't written on the homepage won't work, so even if you just tell them verbally that it can't be done or not, that's strange. The current customer service towards SMBC company is a disgrace.

When studying abroad I was told that I also needed the pre-renewal residence card that I had been using. Why did you need that card? I was asked to confirm that I will be staying in Japan for more than six months. It's an old residence card, so I threw it away as well. You can also check it with your driver's license. I was told things that I didn't understand. That branch only has elderly staff. I thought the old methods were troublesome. However, on the same day, I was able to open an account online with the usual guidance at another SMBC counter. Why is that? Does the decision differ depending on the branch? It doesn't make any sense, but I would like to receive solid guidance from the beginning. I plan to use another company in the future.

::Even though I have a lot of money in the bank, I haven't heard anything from them. The free parking service for ATM users was no longer available, so I had to pay 160 yen. Given the high cost of gasoline, it may be better to use an ATM at another bank or convenience store near you, even if you pay the fee.
