A well maintained free attraction in Tokyo. Beautiful gardens, and visually impressive stone walls and moats. Around spring when the cherry trees are in bloom is probably the best time to go. Lots of walking, like most of Tokyo, the grounds are sprawling and massive, with some relatively steep paths and roads, bring your comfy walking shoes, a Tokyo must see freebie

Couldn't go in and the staff did not speak English so challenging to figure out how to sign up for the tour. Beautiful surroundings of where it is open to the public. The adjacent park is a few hundred yen to enter. Beautiful!

Beautifully built and maintained historical garden. Truly an unbelievable find within Tokyo which is an extremely busy city. Well maintained and manicured gardens with beautiful scenes. Seeing this green historic garden with tall buildings in the background is a wonderful experience.

To see cherry blossom was the purpose of my trip. For 2018 the garden is open to the public 3/24 - 3/31 for that. The security check was efficient, didn't wait for too long. The cherry blossoms was just starting. In general it was a good trip. I would recommend

Historical and with current importance. The place has big gardens with spacious square in front of it to hold big events. This is still the emperor's house and office. It is possible to get in only twice a day in guided tours that requires reservation and with limited places. The visit is free of charge. There is not too much to see. No magnificent architecture or gardens. But historically and politically there is a great meaning. Check the schedules before going. The outside gardens are open and does not require booking.
