::1300 years old , continuous running Ryokan near Kagaonsen. The place is tranquil. Our suit was very spacious with private onsen. The staff is extremely efficient and attentive! While booking in advance when we had called, there were English speaking staff, who were very helpful We were picked by the ryokan’s van at the Kagaonsen station and also at the end of our stay, dropped back to the station! The ryokan is about 30 min drive from the Kagaonsen station, which is connected to Kyoto / Tokyo by Shinkansen The public onsen are separate for Men and Women and are quite spacious. They have indoor as well as outdoor onsen. Also, hot sauna. The garden in the middle is beautiful too. The multi-course dinner and breakfast are served in the room. Very elaborate, delicious and eye-pleasing! Overall, highly recommend it for the experience. Will return here again sometime in future!

::Japanese hospitality at its best. They really pamper you from the moment they pick you up at the station till they drop you. Very clean ryokan with one the best public baths I’ve been (both indoor and outdoor). Breakfast and dinner is very tasty, but need to book them on advance. Highly recommended

::Being the second oldest hotel in the world, this was a cool place to stay. The reception staff and hospitality here was top notch. As i pulled up in my taxi, they were waiting in front of the hotel and knew my name. I was immediately whisked inside where they serve me hot tea in the lobby. The onsen was great, and the morning sunlight in the room was gorgeous. The garden was INCREDIBLE! Cons: Parts of the hotel seem outdated (including the bathrooms in the room). As a family owned hotel on quite a large property, I understand that it would probably be very expensive for them to renovate and they likely need to prioritize other maintenance costs. The location is kind of far removed from other areas you might be visiting in Japan, and there is not a ton to do nearby. Overall this is a cool hotel, but if your time is limited in Japan, I wouldn't necessarily consider it a "must see". I'm grateful that I was able to check it out though.

::With no doubt it is a very beautiful and historic onsen hotel in the world with 1300 years of history. Exceptional Japanese garden view that you can find no where else. To my surprise is great hospitality to foreign visitors who doesn’t speak Japanese like us. We made our very last minute reservation (due to weather & plan changes) with some special request on food and celebration, the staffs have put their greatest effort to accommodate. High quality local meals were provided. We especially appreciate their instant respond and a young male customer servicer who is super friendly. Would very much like to visit again.

::It is advertised as the oldest ryokan (hot springs hotel) in Rokuriku region. It is historical buildings but was taken very good care of. The staff were very nice. The older Japanese staff don’t speak much English but you can easily feel their enthusiastic hospitality. The room was a bit old but still in great condition. The public baths are both great indoor and outdoor. The indoor pool is huge with several areas and kinda different temperatures to choose from. Unfortunately, the Sauna room was not hot enough. The buildings are all connected and surrounded by a big and beautiful Japanese garden. It was nice wandering around the garden both day and night.
