::We biked the Shimanami Kaido over 2 days and stayed at this hotel both before and after our bike ride. The staff was kind. We were able to store our luggage at the hotel while we were biking. We also utilized the laundry machines which was helpful after biking. We also ate at both the restaurant for dinner as well as the cafe for coffee and pastries! Both were tasty! Rooms were a bit dark, but we enjoyed sitting outside in the port and watching the large ships.

::Stayed 3 nights. Good location for the bike trail. Be aware the bike trail is a lot of road biking with cars directly next to you. Regarding the hotel it is extremely dark. Underlit and only one milky glass window that opens to the smelly port with poisonous diesel fumes. Some boats on this port idle 24/7. see picture. Feels a bit like jail. Can’t look out of your room at all. You would think being by water would be nice. Japan has mostly industrial uses for their coastline it seems.

::we stayed here for 2 nights to cycle the shimanami kaido as a day trip. we enjoyed the atmosphere in the building, also the food in the restaurant was great (although a bit pricy). staff was very kind and helpful. the room was spacious and stylish, however, it was very dark inside.

::Stayed here in April 2024 for the Shimanami Kaido. U2 and the hotel rooms had a nice modern sleek look. The bathroom had plenty of commodities. The bakery, restaurant, and coffee bar was delicous, especially the breakfast bar that came with the hotel. The price for the rooms seem a little high, but the rooms are all built for 2 people rather than solo travelers and I was arriving on the tail end of sakura season. Other than that, thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel!

::Neat idea, but not well executed. The price is a bit too high compared to the alternatives. The „loft“ atmosphere and bike theme are well done, but that doesn’t compensate for the lack of essential qualities expected from a hotel. Here are just a few things that were disappointing: - When we entered our room for the first time, we immediately noticed a musty smell. This got worse when turning on the AC. - Bedroom and bathroom are connected by a glass wall; you have to close the curtains between the two rooms every time you want to go to the bathroom. Also, good luck going to the toilet in the middle of the night without waking your partner. - At the same time, the only source of daylight is a window in the bathroom below a roof, angled perpendicularly to the building’s outside walls. Ie. there’s hardly any daylight in the bedroom. - The room doors have very bad sound isolation, yet all rooms lead to the central hallway and lobby, which is very noisy. This is exacerbated by the presence of two exercise bikes in said hallway, which people are using late into the evening while talking loudly. - There was quite a lot of dust on the horizontal surfaces in our room, such as the shelf at the head end of the bed. - The rooms have regular keys rather than key cards, and you are asked to leave them with the reception whenever you leave the hotel. Key cards are just so much more convenient, and should be the norm in a fairly new hotel in 2024. - The WiFi access point has four prominent blue lights shining into the bedroom all night. To summarize, many of these things are done better by any decent business hotel, and I hope Hotel Cycle improves on them as well.
