February 18, 2024 diary Record warmest winter. Usually this time of year, there is so much snow that I don't feel like going there, but I thought I might be able to go this year, so I put on my snowshoes from the dam management office and went for a day trip. The snow was about 70cm deep in some places, with the road surface exposed in some places. The snow conditions were poor due to the temperature, and even with snowshoes on, we were so wet that we could barely cover 3km in an hour. The distance from the front of the management office (road closed sign) to the campsite is less than 7 km. There was an average snowfall of over 50 cm, many fallen trees, and about 3 landslides. Although it will be earlier than usual, it will probably be the end of April before the road will become passable for four-wheelers (in the year when heavy snow and heavy rain coincided, it took until June). I think the two-wheeler will arrive around the end of March. I'm planning to go there by bicycle at the end of March, so I'll report back. The campsite was safe. This is a unique campsite that you won't find anywhere else in Japan. Mr. Kamikoanimura, thank you for your continued support. As of October 29, 2023 The road from Gojome-cho Babame/Koichi is only passable on foot. The road from National Route 285 to Hagigata Dam Campsite is open and can be passed by regular cars. However, the campsite is not open and water and toilets are unavailable. This year, there have been many incidents of human injury caused by bears across Japan, and these incidents are particularly frequent in Akita Prefecture. People on foot or on bicycles should be careful on the roads along the way.

Is there really a campsite here? ! It's where you think it is. The unpainted roads were difficult. We went on a Sunday, and since we were the only ones there, we had a leisurely chat with the manager! It seems to be crowded with fishing people in August. They collected some wild vegetables and we cooked them on the spot and ate them, and they were delicious 😋 The toilets are clean and 100 yen is cheap! However, it may be inconvenient that water does not come out when the generator is not running. You will receive firecrackers first, but I saw a bear on the way back, so be careful ⚠

It is written as Hagigata and read as Haginari. For 100 yen per night, the toilets are clean and the kitchen is decent. It's a nice campsite with beautiful nature. Since I'm a naturalist, I generate my own electricity and don't have a cell phone signal. The problem is that the path to get there is quite steep. The unpaved road is narrow and there are no guardrails, so be careful of falling rocks and the tunnel is scary. Be careful on this road during bad weather and at night.

August 2018 preview: There is a sign from Route 285 to the campsite, and it is quite far back from there. (Yagizawa Village, further behind Hagigata Dam) It feels like it is further back than the map indicates. My cell phone was out of Docomo service. The campground is not dirt but grass (maybe other grass) in half of the site, and the other half has an undeveloped atmosphere. Several bungalows. There is a kitchen, toilet, and coin shower. I haven't stayed there yet, but I think it's a good option if you want a quiet environment. However, there is a defile beyond the dam, so larger vehicles may not be able to enter. There are no shops, so you will need to purchase food etc. in advance.

There is a 3.5 km long dirt road where trolleys used to transport timber used to run. . A quiet ``Haginari'' campsite located on the site of a forestry station's lumberyard, surrounded by nothing but nature. The renovated toilet building has bio-toilets and coin-operated showers. However, since it is home-generated, if the caretaker is away, the pump will stop running and there will be no water even in the kitchen. It seems that they are on duty until 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays, but it would be best to contact the village in advance during the off-season. Several small and medium-sized bungalows. Mats and blankets provided by the prefecture are provided, so you can stay comfortably by just bringing your own sheets. P.S.: A signboard has been added to National Route 285.
