::The place, an old ryokan, is not a hotel, not a ryokan either, it is more like a hostel where you can just come in and go. There is absolutely no personal, you self check in and we haven’t met anyone who is working there. You do everything yourself, twice my bedroom was open by other guests as they did not manage to find their own. Basically the clients manage the hotel. It is located next to the main road, which makes it extremely noisy, as there is no window but only thin paper window. It is like the cars drive like 4 meters away from your bed. And this is not to mention the total lack of isolation inside: you hear your neighbors speak as they were in your room, having sex, coming drunk at midnight, every steps they make from your neighbors above. It is so far my worst experience in Japan. This place is definitely not meant to be a shared place without personal. I am very very disappointed and I am writing this long comment so people know where they are booking, not mistaken by the pictures.

::Nice guesthouse, simple rooms. Recommend for people on a budget like myself. Good location and clean bedrooms. The cleaning staff were very friendly.

::Decent and quirky ryokan. Unfortunately it was quite noisy as the room doors do nothing to block sound. Drunk guests returning at 1:30am loudly woke me up. Also the main hotel automatic door had a loud alarm that went off randomly at 6am and despite trying everything, I could I could not get it to stop. I stayed here to get a good night's sleep and rest before heading to Naoshima and unfortunately due to the noise issues I was exhausted instead of well rested. Everything else was fine but due to the poor noise isolation I can't recommend.

::What a quirky place. An old house or ryokan that’s been updated and modernized. If you’ve ever wondered what could happen to those old homes if they were modernized then you’ll love it here. The rooms include private bath and toilet in the room, or down the hall. Everything is well organized and clearly explained. Our bed was so very comfortable. A balance of soft with a firm under base. We were the only guests the night we were there so don’t know what noise issues there might be if it’s full, but I expect the folks who stay here would be on the quiet side. We had problems with the Wi-Fi which was fixed by moving us to a different room. I’d stay again.

::I hate to leave a poor review however, this was the worst stay of my trip in Japan. I was unable to sleep at all and am completely exhausted today. I could not wait to get out of there. I was in the Small Double Bedroom and the worst part was the restroom attached to the bedroom that reeked of fermented urine, it made me gag to have the door open. The restroom also has disturbing artwork that combined with the odor to create a terrible environment for anyone to sleep. The host was kind, but the hotel is in need of major renovation. There was also a large crab crawling around the lobby area in the evening - very curious. This was a last-minute change of plans to stay here, to have another day on the islands. If you can, I recommend staying somewhere else. Especially, for over $100 per night, I was expecting better.
