Words can't quite describe the family atmosphere I got from the owner lady. I had a great time chatting with her and another regular customer who lives nearby. The tea was exceptional, and the Susuri tea way of drinking lets you enjoy it five ways. This shop was never part of my plan, but if I ever come back to Yufuin, I'm definitely stopping by again. Don't be stingy over 1500 yen. It's worth it. (Note: I'm not sure if the owner speaks English)

This tea house was an unexpected find on our way to the ryokan. There are no menus or English instructions, but the lady working there was able to guide us through this amazing experience (we also used Google translate for the instruction sheet). There is only one item on the menu which is the tea experience with Japanese sweets. The tea is enjoyed five times starting with a very concentrated first sip that is only a teaspoon or so of liquid. This first drink is nothing like I’ve had before given the savouriness. The second and third drink with slightly hotter water was still a flavour profile that I didn’t recognize as green tea. It wasn’t until the four drink with 90c water that a more familiar flavour profile emerged. The fifth and final wasn’t actually a drink, but you add soy sauce to the used tea leaves and eat the leaves with the chopsticks. This was unique experience for me in high quality green tea and it did not disappoint. The cost per person was ¥1,500.

Enjoy Premium green tea in front of a calm and beautiful Japanese garden. It is a good place a rest after long walk.

What a lovely wee place! The akumaki was so good together with some green tea. The lady was super friendly too, thank you! So glad I popped in :)
